RIP Rowland S. Howard (1959-2009)

He was probably my favorite guitarist next to Dave Davies & my brother Mickey.
He also put out my favorite album of 2009, possibly one of my favorites of the entire decade.
I co-hosted a radio show with my friend Beth on WCSB 89.3 in Cleveland on January 1st, 2010. We did a retrospective of Rowland’s work. You can listen to it on the web through this podcast:
Rowland S. Howard Retrospective on WCSB, Cleveland
Plus, I’ve written a eulogy to RSH here:

Please Help!
(Feel free to forward or copy/paste this or post on Social Networking sites)
As you all may or may not know, a dear friend of mine named Michael Yaniro was a victim of violent robbery in the Ridgewood area of Queens (NYC). He was savagely beaten beyond recognition, and now he’s got a long road ahead of him with many surgeries. To add insult to his injuries, he has no medical insurance!
A brief description of his injuries: His right eye socket needs surgery as there is a bone protruding into it… so it needs to be repaired to restore his ability to move the eye. (He has had this surgery, and will need more work in the future). He has a fractured jaw and nose which will require surgery to repair, as well as multiple broken bones in his face. Pieces of titanium metal is to be inserted in his face to support the bones.
His girlfriend Abby is trying to get him Emergency Medicaid, but that is really tough to get approved, and its doubtful whether or not it will be rewarded. That is why this fundraiser was started. Its not registered as non-profit organization (so if you’re looking for a tax break, this is not the time and place for it), but as a way to possibly raise a little money to help him through his crisis.
Mike is a productive member of society… he wasn’t looking for trouble! If you don’t believe the ‘productive’ part, look at his website of his incredible artwork: http://www.michaelyaniro.com
…or listen to his band called Twin Stumps who are on Dais Records.
This horrific situation occurred over $10 bucks and cellphone (chump change!)
If you’re a friend who cares about him, please help him out! Even if you don’t know him, you have got to admit… this situation sucks, and you’d want the same help if you were in his shoes! So please… give whatever you can afford to give. Hopefully it can at the very least, do some good (even if all it adds up to is buying some pain medication). Mike thanks you in advance!
There is an active fundraising campaign set up at Facebook through iFund:

But if you don’t have a Facebook account, but have a Paypal one, you can send a donation to:
mikeyaniromedicalfund@gmail.com
In the interim… donations can also be in check or money order form, and made out directly to Mike’s mother, Kathleen Yaniro.
Her address:
Kathleen Yaniro
24 Howard Heights Lane,
Jay NY 12941![]()
Many thanks you in advance!
I have also set-up a website with further info at:

Oh… how I would love to…
… go to see the Gavin Friday & Friends show in NYC!

But since I don’t live there, I would have to travel & get a hotel. Combine that with tix to a show at Carnegie Hall (which are for charity, and charity tix are always more costly) … plus the ever-growing expense of just being in NYC (food, transport, etc) … and having to lose a paid work day in this bad economy!
Yikes! That same weekend, the bi-annual Cinema Wasteland Expo comes to Cleveland, and one of my favorite actors, Fred ‘the Hammer’ Williamson is one of the guests! I WILL meet that legend no matter what!

Happy Autumn!

Happy New Year!
Happy New Year!
Hopefully 2009 won’t be as ugly as 2008. At least some improvements in regards to who’s in charge in the US.

June 2008
I’ve been busy. Really busy! Between my regular job, photographing concerts, moving, the death of my grandmother (and travelling to the funeral), adopting a dog, cutting my hair, writing articles and conducting interviews, and finally re-subscribing to cable TV after a 3 year hiatus… I’ve had little time to breathe.
One tidbit of good news I’d like to expand briefly on is the fact that I will be having some of my live photos of the Dirtbombs published in Skyscraper Magazine (in the next issue). Not sure what photos are going in, but I’m pretty happy about it.
During the month of May, I shot some photos at some shows, and here’s some of those photos:

Tod A of Firewater

Rachel Nagy of The Detroit Cobras
Here’s an interview I did with Trztn of Services at Popshifter.
This is another article I wrote for this edition of Popshifter.
Here’s a photo of my new dog named Buster.

My cat (aptly named ‘Kitler’) does not approve:

A fantastic example of what I’ve been enjoying on VH1-Classic (since I got cable again):
“Wild Child” by W.A.S.P.
And I’d like to end this with a photo of my grandma. I miss her.
